The following lines were wrote by Phillis, (a Negro girl,
belonging to Mr. Wheatley, of Boston) just before she sailed
for England.
To the Empire of America, beneath the Western Hemisphere.
FAREWELL TO AMERICA.
To Mrs. S. W.
Adieu, New England's smiling meads,
Adieu, the flow'ry plain;
I leave thy op'ning charms, O spring!
